Broad and Ritner Neighborhood Profile

The neighborhood surrounding the Broad and Ritner Farmers Market is a densely populated urban area that has a large residential population and a visible commercial presence. The median household income is approximately $27, 097, almost $30,000 less than the US average. The population is primarily white and mostly single. Home values are on the lower side. The neighborhood is home to a high population of Italian Americans as seen in the many Italian restaurants and specialty stores. The Fels South Community Center, which has a senior citizen center in it, is a neighborhood hub and social gathering place. It is also a huge supporter of the market which is directly outside of it. Next to Fels, is the city’s only Children’s Free Library. Down the street is the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School. The school does not have any ties with the farmers market. The neighborhood is home to many corner stores that accept EBT cards and some do carry fresh produce. We noticed many banks and medical clinics in the area too. Here are some pictures!
